Career Requirements for Joining Our Apprenticeship
To become part of the SMART Local 26 team, applicants must meet the following basic requirements:
If you are new to the sheet metal industry and would like to become an apprentice, our program offers paid on-the-job training while you learn a rewarding career.
Starting apprentices earn over $40.40 per hour in total compensation, which includes family health insurance, a 401(k) savings plan, and an international pension.
If you have prior experience in sheet metal or HVAC, you must provide proof of employment. Acceptable documentation includes W-2 forms, pay stubs, or a Social Security earnings statement. (Resumes are not accepted as proof of prior employment.)

Step 2 – Contact SMART Local 26 Union Hall

Step 3 – Attend Pre-Membership Meeting

When: Last Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM

Where: JATC Training Center, 1237 Gator Way, Sparks, NV

Who: Union Hall Organizer and JATC Coordinator will be present

Purpose: Review applicant status, clarify the indenturement process, and keep applicants informed

Step 4 – Wait for Review and Acceptance

Once your application is complete, documents are submitted, and you’ve attended the Pre-Membership Meeting, you’ll be placed on the employment waiting list.

Positions are filled as they become available, and you will be contacted if selected.
